Hello! Now I’d like to introduce the second story of “A Pair of Ghostly Hands.” The title is “Lost Hearts.” The lead role is a boy, Stephen whose parents passed away six months ago. He is taken in by Mr. Abney, his relation. One day, he is told to come Mr. Abney’s room at the mid night, so he goes there. And he found the notebook written the names of the boy and the girl who were kidnaped decades ago. He turns the pages, and found his name on the not. He got confused. He thinks that Mr. Abney wrote them, and he is the criminal of the kidnap! He decides to run away the room. Then he notices that Mr. Abney is behind him…. That is the end of this story. The author didn’t describe the last scene clearly. I hope Stephen could go away well.

And they or their bodies have not been found. Stephen thinks it is just rumor, and doesn’t believe it.   One night, Mr. Abney asks him to come his room at 11 o’ clock; after the housekeepers go home. He goes to the room as he was told by him. And he found a notebook written the name the boy and the girl who was kidnaped.    

  Hello, everyone! The new semester started! Today I’d like to introduce my book I read lately. The title of this book is “A Pair of Ghostly Hands.” This book has some short story 10 pages long. The first one is about a ghost. Emily, a single lady, rents a house in Cornwall at Tresillack on the south coast. Starting to live there, she realizes that there is something strange. The rooms and corridors are always so clean that she feels that is unnatural. She thinks it is because of Mrs. Carkeek, a live-in housekeeper who has worked there before the ex-owner lived. But, they look neat as if they are cleaned by someone even though Mrs. Carkeek doesn’t start cleaning yet. One night, she hears a sound of water running. She goes to the kitchen, and, finds hands! ✋ There is no one, but only hands without a body! They are washing themselves with water. She is surprised and cry. Then Mrs. Carkeek is coming and tells her the story about the ghost. The ghost is a daughter of the ex-owner...

  Today, I’d like to my favorite scene of “When Marnie Was There.” The scene is that Anna, the lead role of this story, says to Sandra “Fat pig.” Sandra is just Anna’s neighbor not her friend. When they play cards, Sandra cheats and laughs secretly with another girl. When Anna tries to say something, Sandra interrupts it. And, Sandra says to Anna nastily “Call me what you like. I don’t care! I know what you look like, my road.” So, Anna looks at her scornfully, says “Fat pig” and turns to go out.   Off course, we should not say bad things about other people, but I felt better when I read this scene. Anna is always trying to be a good girl and not saying what she thinks and wants, so I think it is good for her to say her real feeling even though it is not good words. Anyway, this story was made into a movie of jiburi “omoide-no-Marnie”( 思い出のマーニー ). In the movie, “fat pig” is translated into “futoccho-buta( ふとっちょブタ ).” I think the translation is nice and funny! 🐷 ...

  Today, I’d like to introduce my favorite character of “Animal Farm.” My favorite character is Boxer, a horse, nearly eighteen hands high, and as strong as any two ordinary horses put together. He is not as clever as the pigs; however, he is a hard worker. When the animals build the windmill, he works so industrious that Clover worry about him. Even though the windmill is broken, and human beings hurts him, he never stops working. His personality is opposite to mine; I’ m very lazy. I was idle and neglected my work during this summer vacation. So, I respect him who keeps working whatever happens. The autumn semester is starting soon. I wasted time of my summer vacation, so I ‘d like to make up it! I aim to study hard like Boxer!    

Today, I’d like to write a diary of Anna, the lead role of “When Marnie Was There.” September 3 rd Today, I met the girl who I lived in the house by the marsh. She told her name, Marnie. We asked some questions each other, but something strange happened. When she asked about Mr. and Mrs. Peggs, I couldn’t answer even though I lived with them. Then, I lost my memory. Waking up, I realized that I was in a boat, and she wasn’t there. She came soon, and said to me “You couldn’t even answer it, and frightened me by running away instead.” But I didn’t do such a thing! Why did she say that? What happened with us? This is the end of today’s diary. Anna often makes a barrier toward people around her, but she wants to be good friends with Marnie. I want Marnie to be Anna’s friend! And I want to know the mystery that Anna runs away or not.

Today, I’d like to write about an advice for Anna, the lead role of “When Marnie Was There.” Her mother gives her postcards and tells her to write how she is when she goes to Norfolk. But, Anna can’t write her true feelings. The reason is that she is not her birth mother but foster mother. And she is a little cold toward her. So, I’ll advise her. Anna, you don’t have to bother with your mother. She really cherishes you. If she didn’t want to live with you, she wouldn’t have adopted you. So, you can write what you want to tell your mother on the postcard! Your mother never hates you whatever you write. In fact, she gradually realizes she is really loved by her mother during her stay. She tells her honest feeling Marnie, her best friend. She responds to her words. Finally, Anna can talk to her mother with her real feelings.   Hello, everyone! Did you read Animal Farm ? I think it is difficult for me to understand what it really wants to tell us. So, I started reading another book, When Marnie Was There . Have you ever watched the movie of Jiburi, Omoide no Marnie ( 思い出のマーニー )? It is the original of it. The movie is set in Hokkaido today; however, the navel is set in Norfolk in England in 1950s. Anna, the lead role of this story, has an introverted personality. She thinks everyone except her is “inside” and she is “outside.” And, she can’t call her foster mother who brings her since she was young “mum.” Her foster mother tells her to spend her summer vacation at her mother’s friend’s house in Norfolk to recuperate asthma. She is a little cold to Mr. and Mrs. Pegg, her mother’s friends, even though her mother, and tries to be a good girl. She always draws herself up stiffly and puts on her wooden face. One day, Mrs. Pegg asks her “Enjoy yourself?” and advises her “You do what you like. Just s...

One night, old Major, the white boar of Mr. Jones’ farm, assembles all animal, such as dogs, pigs, horses, and goats there, and begins speaking. He tells them that it is wrong that human beings control animals and benefit from them. He said to them, “only get rid of Man, and the produce of our labor would be our own,” “that is my message to you, comrades: Rebellion!” Finally, all of them sing the song “Beasts of England” together. It throws them into the wildest excitement boosts the morale of them. Three nights later old Major passes away, but, the animals decide to follow in his footsteps. They break into the store-shed because Mr. Jones didn’t feed them. And they attack him and his men. Mr. Jones and his men get frighten and run away from the farm. The rebellion is successfully. Today I’d like to introduce the ending of Matilda. Matilda spend her life peacefully after she expelled the nasty principal. One day her parents hastily pack up to move when she comes back home. Her father said to her “we’re off.” They will move to Spain from the small town of England. The reason is his crime. He is in with a bunch of crooks. He receives stolen cars from all over the country and sells them. And, police are going to catch them, so they have to get away. Matilda don’t want to leave her hometown and her school. She goes to Ms. Honey who is her kind teacher she adores, and tells that. Crying, she appeals she want to live with Ms. Honey. She accepts that, and asks her parents. She tells them she would love to have Matilda and look after her with loving care with their full and willing consent. They easily permit it and say “If she wants to stay, let her stay. Last week I wrote Matilda’s victory, and now I’d like to write after that. I like this last scene. Matilda, the lead role, is a girl genius. She uses supernatural power and expels the vicious principal who deprived Matilda’s teacher of her fortune from school. Finally, instead of the nasty principal, the kind and sincere teacher, Ms. Honey becomes the principal of the school. After that, she can’t use her supernatural power. However, it is not a problem because she gets a peace school life. She allows Matilda gets promoted from the lowest class to the highest class because she has clever enough to be in the class, and the new teacher wants her to study more. Matilda is delighted to know that. She likes studying very much. After that, she can’t use the supernatural power any more, but she doesn’t mind that. Matilda, the lead role, is a girl genius. One day she realizes she has supernatural power, and she decides to use it for her teacher whose aunt tries to deprive the teacher of her fortune. The teacher’s aunt is the principal of her school. She hates Matilda, and assumes that all mischief was made by her, despite she didn’t do that. She also schemes to pay her back.       When the principal teaches her class, she tries to do that. She uses her supernatural power, and writes on the blackboard with chalk without her hand. Everyone in the classroom can’t see what happens there, also it is caused by Matilda. The message she writes is “Give my Jenny (Matilda’s teacher’s name) her wages. Give my Jenny the house. Then get out of here. If you don’t, I will come and get you. I will come and get you like you got me. I am watching you.” Looking at it, the principal has fallen down. No one knows, but Matilda achieves a triumph!

Then, she says to him showing up with an innocent look “what’s the matter, Daddy? Has your head suddenly swollen or something?” I like her character. Her parents are not educational people, rather, child neglect; however, she tries to enjoy her life and never gives up the environment, such as the parents and the nasty principal. If I can be like her, I will make my days more exciting.

Trunchbull, the principal of her school is very nasty and hates her because Matilda’s father said to her his daughter is a rascal. One day, Lavender, Matilda’s friend, puts a newt into Miss. Trunchbull’s glass. She assumes that Matilda does that. Matilda gets very angry, and knocks the glass without her hands. She uses supernatural power! She is very surprised at herself because she doesn’t know she can do such a thing. Miss. Trunchbull becomes frozen although she is always bossy. I don’t like Miss. Trunchbull because she won’t listen to the teachers’ opinions and she is violent against the children. So, I’ll give her an advice. Miss. Trunchbull, you should quit the principal. People who hate children should not be teachers because it is bad for both of teachers and students. Why do you hate children especially girls? You used to be a girl. If you like to use vio...

Matilda is a little girl, but, not an ordinary child. She is genius; she can read newspapers and books written by famous writers such as Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen although she is just five years old. But, her parents don’t think so, rather, think she is stupid. What is worse, they forget to send her to school. She is late for a half year to enter school; however, she is the smartest in the class. This story is set in the United Kingdom, so I feel some differences during reading. One of them is that children enter school when they are five years old. I didn’t know that because children enter school when they are six years old in Japan. In this story, Matilda’s teacher, Ms. Honey, asks the principal to let her skip from her class to higher grade. I was surprised that the grade skipping is permitted at the primary school. (But, the principal is very nasty and hates her, so she doesn’t allow it.) I think it is an incredible case. Nat is a Marley is a New York private investigator. He is deceived a man, and police thinks he is the criminal who stole some jewels. Finally, he finds out the mastermind, Tommy Lam. He has two people, and they have guns. There is nothing except them in the huge room of Lam’s company. Nat was pointed the gun. Then, Nat’s colleague storms onto the room, and shoots Lam and his subordinates. After that, police come there, and Lam is arrested. The suspicion against Nat is cleared up. This is the end of this story. I’ll write three questions, and answer them instead of the author. 1.      Lam’s subordinates are shot and die; however, Lam doesn’t die. Why doesn’t the worst man die? Because he has to prove Nat’s innocence. And he should be tried in court. During the search Angela Lake, the woman she asked him to receive a bag in stead of her, Captain Oldenberg, a detective with the New York Department, comes to him and arrests him. The reason is that there are some jewels stolen by someone few months ago in the bag. Nat is confused, and appeals that he was received by Angela desperately. But Oldenberg won’t listen him. After a few days, Joe Blaney, Nat’s colleague, comes to the prison to prove that he is innocent. He is released, but there isn’t evidence enough to arrest Angela. So, he restarts the search with his colleague. There is little description about Joe in this chapter, so I’d like to write him. Joe felt pressed because Nat, the leader of New York private investigators, had been arrested. He thought Nat must not be the criminal; however, there is no evidence. Nat Marley’s Diary      December 19 th Tonight, I drunk in McFadden’s bar alone. I found a beautiful and expensively dressed woman there. Suddenly, she threw up a bill and rushed without receiving the change. Then, I had an intuition that she was someone who really did have problems, and I decided to chase her. however, I lost her after she went behind the information center. I can’t believe that. I could not lose her because I’m a private investigator in New York! I will not get sleep well.

Nat, a private investigator, is asked to find a good layer by a rich woman, Mrs. Joanna Whittaker, however, a few days later she passes away. He is also asked to find her son, Jackie by a homeless woman, Annie Clayton. Nat finds him, and they meet again after twenty years. A few days later, she passes away for her disease. Nat doesn’t think there is a connection between the opposite women, however he found the secret of Annie Clayton. Jackie’s father was the late Mr. Tom Whittaker, Mrs. Joanna Whittaker’s husband. Jackie and Mrs. Whittaker’s son and daughter were very surprised, but instantly felt relaxed. Finally, they decided to use the inheritance from to build a facility for homeless women such as Annie Clayton so that they can live comfortably.
